DGSM took a trip out to the Glengoyne Distillery very recently to collect the 10th edition of
"The Teapot Dram". Even though it was the end of October the weather was unseasonably mild, warm would have been an overstatement.
Glengoyne is a lovely Highland distillery, technically in the Highlands as it sits just to the North of the Highland fault line which in whisky terms separates the Highlands & Lowlands of whisky production. Even though the distillery is only a few miles north of Glasgow, it's still a Highland distillery. Our only disappointment is that although there is a lovely shop on site, there is no cafe to grab a coffee and take a seat.
The distillery isn't too far, literally 200 metres from the 96 mile long West Highland Way and could be missing a trick/opportunity to serve walkers with a hot coffee and a seat.
The shop wasn't too busy and there were about 50 bottles on display. We were a bit cheeky and searched through some of them looking for interesting numbered bottles.
This is a limited annual release of only 3,600 bottles. The bottles available seemed to be mostly high numbers. We managed to find bottle no's 2882 & 2885.
The Batch #10 is available online and you could certainly be lucky and bag a low numbered bottle.
Staying true to our ethos of hand selecting each bottle, we can only choose from the bottles on site at each distillery. On this occasion high numbered bottles were what we had the choice of.
Our next plan will be to sample the Teapot #10 when we find an opened bottle at one of our regular whisky pubs in and around Glasgow. We've also been investigating a few whisky pubs through in Edinburgh which will also be worth a visit in time to come.
